It’s the weather for their outrageously oozy cheese toasties, so here’s a particularly good reason to head to Kensal Rise: Morty & Bob’s are opening an all-day restaurant, café and bar in the neighbourhood.
This will be the third site (with more rumoured on the way for 2023) for the popular street-food brand after successful launches in Coal Drops Yard in King’s Cross in 2018 and then in Westfield Shepherd’s Bush in 2019. If you’re new to Morty & Bob’s, it first materialised in East London’s Netil Market as a food stall famed for grilled cheese sandwiches from owner and restaurateur Charlie Phillips (Morty and Bob being the names of his grandfathers) before doing the music festival scene and various pop-ups prior to settling into permanent spots.
At Kensal Rise, you can park yourself out of the cold at a counter seat in the 48-seater diner or at a period farmhouse table on one of the two outdoor covered and heated terraces. Alongside weekly changing salads and sandwiches, the American-influenced menu will include the likes of:
- Pastrami, mustard and pickle grilled cheese sandwich
- Grain bowl with roasted greens, beet hummus, avocado, cashew and chilli oil
- Pigs in blankets, mustard and maple glaze
- Salmon fillet, warm beluga lentils, peas and dill
- Aged flat iron steak, fried egg, fries and chimichurri sauce
- Mafalde pasta, aubergine, olive and pomodoro sauce
The Kensal Rise outlet will serve specialty coffee from Allpress alongside cocktails and local beers and ales from Camden Brewery. Berkman Wine Cellars are supplying the wines and Champagnes, and for the first time, in a nod to sustainability, Morty & Bob’s will be serving a keg wine from East London’s Uncharted Wines.
