If the thought of California-style street food gets your motor running, or if you were already making pilgrimages to Club Mexicana at their Kingly Court or Seven Dials locations, then news of an upcoming Spitalfields location will make the job of hunting down vegan tacos even easier.
Located in the former HotBox site, Club Mexicana Spitalfields promises an even bigger menu and some serious bar action – the premium tequila will even be kept in a safe in the historical building, which was once a bank, printing press and gallery. Opening in Spitalfields makes this a kind of a coming home for Club Mexicana, given that they started life as a supper club in East London back in 2014. You can toast their return with a Blanco Negroni or a chocolate-infused Mexicana Martini under an ‘80s-inspired mirrorball at the bespoke terrazzo counter made of recycled glass, bottles and marble.
And the food? All plant-based and freshly prepared, of course, including:
- Birria Taco - crispy corn tortilla stuffed with slow-cooked ‘beef’ brisket, queso, onion, onion salsa and dipped in chilli consommé
- Tofish & Chips Taco with pea salsa verde, tartare sauce, pink pickled onions and matchstick potatoes
- Mexican Street Corn with house-made mayo, dairy-free parmesan, ancho chilli, dust, lime, paprika and salt
- Club Mex Soft Serve: made in-house with a choice of organic vanilla and chocolate with coffee-infused tequila, topped with your choice of puffed corn, hundreds & thousands, and salted caramel sauce
Apart from innovative cocktails and a carefully curated selection of mezcals and tequilas, the new restaurant boasts a six-chamber machine churning out frozen margaritas and pina coladas - and if you so desire it (as we do), lageritas.
