King's House in Chelsea sees MasterChef winner Dhruv Baker serve up Basque steaks and more

Back in the day, The Jam Tree was quite the King's Road institution. Now its former owner, Ashley Letchford, is back in charge along with Riding House Cafe's Clive Watson. They're relaunching it as new restaurant and bar, King's House.

Anyone who knows the space well (most recently it was The Lost Hours) will remember that one of the big draws is the massive garden at the back. That's now been given a total makeover with pergolas, trees and a living herb wall.

Inside there's a ground-floor bar and restaurant with a more intimate dining space upstairs. Behind the food is MasterChef winner Dhruv Baker who's teamed up with ex-Ledbury chef Ben Floyd to come up with a British/Basque menu. In practice, that means dishes like 90-day aged Txuleton cooked over fire, charred leeks with Romesco and ex-dairy cow steak tartare alongside British charcuterie.

Cocktails are going to be a big thing here and they've brought in drinks expert Anna Sebastian who's worked with The Savoy and Adam Handling. Her list will feature drinks like the King’s House Aperol spritz made with apple gin, fig and Cava and a Martini served with a choice of savoury Basque garnishes.

All in all, sounds like it's going to be a lively place to meet up in Chelsea.
