If you've forgotten what it's like to go 'Out Out' and worry that you've lost some of your key social skills, then the folks at Champagne house Piper-Heidsieck have come up with a fun experience to ease you back into the fray.
For three nights in August they'll be running an immersive prohibition experience in the Swallow Street Rooms at Bentley’s Oyster Bar. We popped in last night to try it out and can attest to it being a lot of fun. Tickets are £25 per person, which includes a glass of Champagne and three oysters. You'll also be able to order small plates from the archives of Bentley’s like Vietnamese or Rockefeller baked oysters and lobster thermidor.
A password is required to enter the speakeasy, and once in you'll feel like you've stepped back to the days of Prohibition. They're encouraging you to get all dressed up too with pearls, feathers, bowties, braces to enjoy your 1920s Champagne cocktails.
The whole thing is tied in with the launch of Piper-Heidsieck's limited-edition bottle of ‘Brut Prohibition’ which harks back to the days bottles of Piper had to be stashed in sacks of salt in New York Harbour. The salt would dissolve and the sacks would pop to the surface allowing bootleggers to keep New Yorkers supplied with the fizz they loved so much.
