Like many Londoners we've been bereft since one of our favourite restaurants, Black Axe Mangal, closed its doors back at the start of Lockdown 1.0 and hasn't yet reopened. But, offering light at the end of a long tunnel, BAM's chef Lee Tiernan has joined forces with chef Will Lewis from Willy’s Pies and Tabasco for a one-off special pie kit.
The Match Day Special has been created to celebrate fans being allowed back in stadiums and is a limited-edition, bake at home job that you can get delivered anywhere in the country. Stuffed inside that lovely suet crust is a take on a BAM dish, the Bakken Special. Lee's used smoked ox cheeks from HG Walter, braised peppers, chickpeas and onions with Tabasco Chipotle Sauce and a bone marrow centre.
The kit also comes with sides of spiced pickled cabbage, sumac onions and parsley, a pastry brush, football scarf and three mini Tabasco sauces.
The kits go on sale on Willy's Pies website on 7 and 14 December and also 11 January. You can also get them delivered via Big Night on the same days. they're £9.99 and £1 from each sale will be donated to Hospitality Action, an organisation offering vital assistance to all who work, or have worked, in the hospitality industry.
