The Green Room is the South Bank's new alfresco restaurant and bar

Green room alfresco bar and restaurant opens on the South Bank

The South Bank's Green Room bar may have closed for good last year, but it's being resurrected in a different form this summer.

The Green Room #2 will be an alfresco garden space, open for the summer, serving pizza and cocktails. It's being run by hospitality group Wright & Bell which comprises Smithfield restaurant LINO, City bar Kitty Hawk and Carnaby spot Whyte & Brown. And it's a clever move, allowing them to bring furloughed staff back into work, albeit in a different spot to where they're used to.

LINO's Head Chef, Ben Hughes-Gage and his team have brought over their bread oven to the South Bank, which they're firing up to make pizzas with. There'll be a choice of red and white based pizzas with a menu featuring toppings like:

  • Fior Di Latte mozzarella, La Masseria olive oil, passata, housemade chorizo and n’duja
  • Grilled leeks, courgette, tarragon and truffle
  • Passata, confit aubergine, cashew, semi dried tomato and torn basil.

Alongside that you'll be able to order Whyte & Brown’s crispy, chicken burgers and LINO’s house croquettes.

Drinks are the purview of the Kitty Hawk team who'll be inspired by the herbs and botanicals grown in the bar's garden. So you'll find mint in the Herbaceous Spritz and elderflower cordial in the Elderflower Classico.

There'll be room for 100 socially distant customers to dine in.
