What: Cha Cha x Sister Jane
In a nutshell: Latin American restaurant meets vintage clothing store
Summing it all up: Latin American bar and restaurant Cha Cha, which has outlets in Maida Vale and Mayfair is now bringing its concept to Notting Hill, but with a twist. They’ve paired up with vintage clothing store Sister Jane to entice diners to a multi-level, multi-experiential retail concept on the corner of Golborne Road. Apart from the shopping and ground-floor dining, there’s also a rooftop cocktail bar as well as a secret garden.
The low-down
If you’ve been a fan of either of Cha Cha’s Maida Vale or Mayfair restaurants, you’ll be intrigued by the news that they’re bringing their Latin American vibes to a new Notting Hill restaurant, this time in partnership with a vintage-inspired clothing label. We’re not talking about staff uniforms here, either: Sister Jane is the clothing store that will be housed above the ground-floor restaurant in a first-floor showroom and second-floor studio as part of the multi-storey venue (complete with roof terrace) on Golborne Road.
We’re not sure how this food meets clothing merging will work exactly, other than that guests are encouraged to wander about all aspects of the building with a drink in hand, so watch your browsing with the red wine. The interior designers responsible for the seamless blend of brand styles are Sella Concepts, who count the Conran Shop and Alexa Chung among previous clientele. You can expect a 1970s vibe, which translates into bespoke retro furniture, burnt autumnal tones and hand-picked vintage pieces straight from that era.
If you’ve not visited a Cha Cha restaurant before, they serve up Mediterranean cuisine with a Latino twist. The menu at Notting Hill will be overseen by head chef Kai Rykowski, formerly of Chiltern Firehouse, and you can look forward to both a breakfast menu as well as an all-day menu from 11am. Highlights include:
- Cheese and truffle toasties
- French toast with vanilla custard and rhubarb pistachio
- Acai bowls topped with pumpkin, sunflower and chia seeds; and coconut powder
- Sea bass ceviche
- Tempura squid with wasabi mayo and lime
- Oysters with green tomatillo and jalapeño mint gazpacho
- Half a lobster tail, duck breast and octopus, all from the robata grill
You may wish to compare clothing purchases you’ve made en route to the rooftop bar, where there’ll be moonlight DJ sets, cocktails and bar snacks late into the hopefully balmy evenings. There are even rumours of a secret garden with Italian carousel horses, accessed via velvet-clad bannisters and an entrance through an armoire, which admittedly thrills us in all the escape-to-Narnia ways.
