In a nutshell: High-end Mayfair Italian
Summing it all up: Taking the space on Berkeley Street once held by Nobu, Il Borro Tuscan Bistro is a high-end Italian restaurant with strong links to a Tuscan estate and farm. And they even have their own wines.
The low-down
Back in early 2020, Nobu Berkeley Street closed (which had been on the spot for 15 years) and relocated to Marylebone, leaving behind a piece of prime restaurant real estate in Mayfair. It was soon announced that it was to be replaced by high-end Italian restaurant Il Borro, but things were then quiet - until now.
As we get closer to the opening, more info has been released, including the full name - Il Borro Tuscan Bistro.
The new restaurant comes from the Il Borro Estate in Tuscany, which focuses on biodiversity and organic farming (they also have restaurants in Dubai and Florence). The fresh ingredients for the restaurant will be sourced directly from the estate’s arm, including honey, vegetables and organic olive oil. In charge of the kitchen is Executive Chef Andrea Campani and Head Chef Fulvio Opalio but details of the menu are still thin on the ground, other than it will be a fine dining "farm-to-table dining experience".
They will be making good use of the huge Il Borro estate winery and their own wines include 100% Sangiovese, Syrah and their signature Il Borro IGT Toscana that blends Merlot, Cabernet, Syrah, and Petit Verdot. The cocktails will also feature those wines, including the Negroni al Fresco which is apparently made in a custom amphora.
As for the restaurant itself, it's a big old two-floored affair, seating 220. Their bar features a large fireplace which may not be important at the time of writing but could be very welcome in a London winter.
