What: Theatre Royal Drury Lane (restaurant name TBC)
In a nutshell: The Ivy's Richard Caring and Andrew Lloyd Webber team up
Summing it all up: The Theatre Royal Drury Lane is getting a big new refurbishment - and as part of that a new restaurant and bar. Lloyd Webber has brought in Richard Caring and the Caprice Group (The Ivy, Brasserie of Light, Sexy Fish) to handle that.
It's very early days on this story at the time of writing, but we've news of Richard Caring, the man behind The Ivy and Sexy Fish, teaming up with Andrew Lloyd Webber on his new production - a restoration of the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
It's not the first time that Lloyd Webber has been involved in the restaurant business. He was responsible for attracting Naughty Piglets to his Other Place theatre with the Other Naughty Piglets. That turned out very well, so we're expecting good things from this too.
All we know so far is that the bar and restaurant will be open to the public all day, serving lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Here's what Lloyd Webber has to say:
I am delighted to announce this partnership with Richard Caring and Caprice Holdings. Richard is a brilliant restauranteur and showman, both of which are essential to ensuring the theatre will continue to be a vibrant part of Covent Garden life. He is behind many of the countries most loved and entertaining restaurants, making it a perfect match to our ambitious project at Theatre Royal Drury Lane. I’m thrilled to be working together.
We'll have more info closer to opening.
