What: The Grand Duchess
In a nutshell: London's cruiseboat restaurant gets a permanent spot at Paddington Central
Summing it all up: This sister restaurant to the London Shell Co.'s cruising restaurant will be a permanently moored barge by Paddington Central serving up seafood and sparkling wine.
The low-down
Almost two and a half years after they first set sail on the Regent's Canal, the London Shell Co. are expanding. That's right, they needed a bigger boat. But their newest acquisition, The Grand Duchess, won't be going anywhere. She'll be moored right next to their existing boat as a permanent restaurant on the canal.
"We have always dreamt of opening a static restaurant," said co-founders, siblings Harry & Leah Lobek, “where you can have your Hake and eat it”. Yes, they went there. The new barge will have room for 40 diners and will serve up a menu specialising in British food - expect plenty of Cornish seafood - with sparkling wine. Come summer, they'll also have seating outside too and there's also room for a private banqueting table, The Captain's Table, at the bow of the boat for parties from six to thirteen.
On the menu, they're promising dishes like:
- Beer Battered Lobster & Fried Curry Leaves with Chip Shop Curry Sauce
- Monkfish & Wild Garlic Kiev with New Season Lettuce, Croutons & Anchovies
- Surf’n’Turf 500g Dexter Rib and grilled Langoustines in garlic butter
And, if you're just after a glass of English fizz and some seafood snacks, those will be on offer too.
