In a nutshell: Tequila, mezcal and Mexican food in Dalston
Summing it all up: This Dalston tequila and mezcal bar features margaritas on tap, all the agave spirits you could need and is backed up by a Mexican sharing menu.
The low-down
Dalston is getting a new "agaveria", a bar that features all types of agave spirits - so that means a new bar heavy on the tequila and mezcal. Called Hacha (pronounced "Acha") it'll have a rotating selection of spirits as well as signature cocktails.
The main cocktail will be the Mirror Margarita, which will be served on tap from a fountain and "finished with citrus mist". They'll also have their take on a Tequila Sunrise, with clarified orange juice, hibiscus and pomegranate shrub. And their Batanga (tequila and cola) will be Anejo tequila, homemade cola and a Guinness float, served straight up in the style of an Espresso Martini. If you're not a tequila fan - there will be a few cocktails featuring other spirits.
To back that up, there's a small menu of Mexican food. We do like the sound of the "trio of ceviche" that will come with an accompaniment of a trio of taster sorbet cocktails. Otherwise, all we know at this stage is that it's all about sharing plates.
It's all being set up by Deano Moncrieffe (that's him above), who also has the enviable job of "luxury tequila Ambassador for Diageo Reserve" so he'll have picked up a fair bit of tequila knowledge there over the years (it's not clear if Diageo is behind this new bar).
Finally, it'll be a small space, seating 40 with six stools around the bar. It's taking over the place once held by Sapling - so alas their big central bar is heading out the door.
With Sin Gusano just down the road, this whole area seems to be hotting up for Mezcal fans.
