Slaw takes the place of Rok in Islington with a plant-based residency on Upper Street

Slaw takes the place of Rok in Islington with a plant-based residency on Upper Street

We'd heard recently about the sad news of the closure of Islington's Rok - but things move fast on Upper Street and there's already a replacement.

Taking over is plant-based restaurant Slaw. They had a series of successful supperclubs and now they're going to the next level - with a residency in the old Rok space. They say "Our ethos is to produce deliciously healthy food in a sustainable and ethical way. We have strong feelings about reducing food waste and so we employ a root-to-stem culture in our restaurants."

We're still to get our hands on a menu - but going by their Instagram feed, it does look promising. Here's what's on there:

  • Blackberry & apple with a maple, thyme, salt, pecan & macadamia crumble and a crispy apple skin
  • Roasted spiced cauliflower & onions with red chicory and a coriander chutney
  • Beetroot pearl barley with roasted squash, a butterbean hummus and roasted squash seeds

And they say the end goal is a "grab and go" concept, so it looks like there will be much more from Slaw.
