Ceres brings food inspired by Sicily and Provence to Newington Green

ceres stoke newington

What: Cérès

In a nutshell: Popup turns permanent as Kickstarter funds Stoke Newington restaurant

Summing it all up: Inspired by her Sicilian and Provencal grandmothers, the chef behind this Newington Green restaurant has used Kickstarter to move from pop up to permanent

The low-down

If you were lucky enough to have been to Southbound – a pop-up supper club in Hackney – then you would have had a chance to taste Camille Tardieu’s modern dining creations, inspired by her Sicilian and Provencal grandmothers.

The good news is that such was the success of her supper club series that Camille is now opening her own restaurant, following a successful Kickstarter campaign.

Set to open in November, Cérès will be the latest in a series of openings turning the area around Newington Green into quite the dining destination. Already we have the likes of Yield, Perilla and Trangallan drawing in the foodie pound. And, of course, Jolene has just opened.

Camille will be serving a seasonally changing menu with interesting sounding dishes such as Bourgogne in a pillow - Oxtail bourguignon in a dim sum bun, pearl onions, crispy pancetta and salty plum jam, Rare Wagyu X fillet with creamed aubergine and roasted garlic, grilled bone marrow and spring onions and Monkfish with golden beetroot, clams and a tarragon beurre blanc.

What we're most intrigued by is the prospect of her Brioche Brunch on Saturdays which will centre around homemade baked breads and artisan French pastries.

Sunday lunch will have that same Mediterranean influence, serving slow cooked meat dishes and whole fishes designed for sharing, not forgetting homemade pastas too.
