What: Anthracite
In a nutshell: King's Cross gets its first martini bar
Summing it all up: Opening up at The Great Northern Hotel is this three roomed martini bar with fabulous views over the area and everything to entice martini lovers to King's Cross.
The low-down
The redevelopment of King's Cross has brought us many great eateries, but until recently hasn't delivered much in the way of good bars. So it was music to our ears to learn that Anthracite, a martini bar, is set to open on the first floor of the Great Northern Hotel.
We’ve been told to expect a glamorous, elegant and sophisticated bar which will take over three rooms beside the existing Snug Bar. Here you can while away the hours either working your way through the inventive martini menu, or if you ask nicely enough head barman Balazs Nagy may even create a bespoke one just for you.
We are intrigued by the idea of the Coastal Martini made from samphire-infused gin, cured lemon-infused Mancino extra dry, black pepper tincture, pumpkin, chilli oil and a garnish of seaweed crisp. Not a Martini drinker? Do not fear, the bar are happy to serve a whole host of other cocktails and an extensive list of Gin and Tonics.
We fear we may be missing a few more trains with this addition to the scene.
