In a nutshell: Blackfriars' restaurant scene gets a boost from this all day opening
Summing it all up: Bringing in chef Lee Streeton from 45 Jermyn Street shows this new Blackfriars all day spot means business. Tucked into the Bankside Hotel it'll feature modern art everywhere and a menu that shows similar creativity.
The low-down
Opening a stone's throw from the river, Art Yard Bar & Kitchen (not to be confused with Art St Kitchen which is over by the river in Westminster) is going to be a fun place to hang out. Here's what you need to know about it:
It's got a serious chef on board
Head Chef Lee Streeton comes here via 45 Jermyn Street and Brown's Hotel and before that Daphne’s and Le Caprice. He's going to take British seasonal produce and then give it a twist of European inspiration. And his food does sound good with dishes like Baked Bone Marrow with Curry Sauce and Cataplana of Monkfish, Shellfish, Saffron and Potato on the menu.
As the name suggests, it'll be easy on the eye
Expect to see all manner of modern artworks throughout the 80-seat, open plan restaurant. There'll also be a massive mural in the private dining room by London ceramicist and illustrator Laura Carlin, composed of illustrated tiles.
Got a gang of you? Large groups are very welcome
At the weekends they'll be firing up the wood-fire oven, roasting large, sharing cuts of meat served family-style. That's not the only thing going supersize though - look out for magnums of wine and jugs of beer too.
The cocktails sound ace
Bermondsey honey-washed negroni anyone? There's also a few cocktails planned for on-tap if you're in a bit of a rush including a Nitro Cold Brew Martini and a Seedlip Draught Cocktail’.
And there's bar food too
To go along with beer from the Bermondsey beer mile and a decent wine list you can try snacks and small plates like Anchovies with Sage and Lemon or Spicy Lamb, Aubergine and Egg Pide
