What: Tonkotsu Stratford
In a nutshell: Ramen and gyoza in Stratford
Summing it all up: The ever-popular Tonkotsu are expanding again, with their eighth London site scheduled for Stratford this at the end of July. Expect the usual signature homemade noodle ramen, gyoza and Japanese sides, alongside a selection of craft beer, sake and cocktails.
The low-down
Tonkotsu, founded by Ken Yamada and Emma Reynolds in 2012, is without doubt one of London’s best ramens so news of another one is always very welcome indeed. This one will be the furthest east yet, taking up a spot in the new International Quarter of Stratford, which is located between Westfield Stratford and the Olympic Park.
The menu is set to be similar to the other locations, including:
- Tonkotsu - the classic creamy pork broth with homemade noodles
- Tokyo ramen - chicken broth base with homemade noodles
- Pork, ginger and garlic gyoza
- Chicken kara-age - one of the best pieces of fried chicken in London
On the drinks side, there’s plenty of Japanese beers, including Tonkotu’s own collaboration with Siren brewery, the Kisetsu Dry-Hopped Saison Ale, and on the cocktail list, we can never turn down a cherry-smoked negroni.
The new Stratford site, designed by STAC Architecture also sounds very impressive indeed, with 100 covers, an open kitchen, large dining terrace, and a 6 metre high Japanese Maple tree in the entrance.
