Jpdated 21/6/18 with soft launch details
What: Isla Ray
In a nutshell: Cafe culture for Deptford's High Street
Summing it all up: Returning Londoner Rachael Dalton-Loveland has come back from Oz inspired by their cafe culture to open this all day spot which will serve up sharing plates and cocktails in the evening to Deptford denizens.
The low-down
It feels like a step in the right direction when a Subway is replaced by an independent cafe. Which is good news for Deptford where Isla Ray is about to open on the high street replacing the old Subway with an Aussie style cafe.
The cafe is the project of Londoner Rachael Dalton-Loveland who recently returned to the UK after spending a few years living in Melbourne working in the city’s best bars and cafes. She's come back with a whole host of global knick knacks to furnish her cafe and a menu to boot.
During the day Isla Ray will serve up food to the brunch and lunch crowd - think overnight oats and yoghurt bowls and open sandwiches like brie and crushed walnuts with rosemary and maple syrup or salmon with creme mascarpone and capers, before switching to sharing plates and bar snacks in the evenings.
From 5pm choose from a Meze Plate filled with falafel, hummus, feta, bread and olives or a Mixed Plate with local cured meats, cheeses, pickles and bread will be available. That'll be matched with classic cocktails with a twist, wine and local London beer including Deptford start-up Villages.
Even better, now that the summer's finally here, the cafe's Cuban themed courtyard will be open all day too.
