What: St Paul
In a nutshell: Local Islington all-day cafe
Summing it all up: Replacing Nanna's in Islington is St Paul, a new all-day cafe. Expect cakes, pastries, small plates and more.
The low-down
If you've been wondering what would be replacing Nanna's since it sadly closed earlier this year in Islington, we have news for you. It will (pending some final planning agreements) be a new all-day cafe for the area. In charge of things will be Mark Wood - he used to be a GM for Hakkasan and opened Yauatcha for them.
They're aiming for something that's all centred around provenance and good for both locals and visitors alike. The set-up doesn't seem too dissimilar to Nanna's before it - namely small plates and snacks throughout the day, with coffee in the day and craft beer and a short wine list in the evening. Expect charcuterie, cheese plates, soups, stews - and dishes like tartiflette with sourdough or burrata with crushed smoked almonds and green beans too.
During the day breakfast kicks off with sausage and tomato jam sarnies, bircher muesli and the kick-ass sounding toasted banana and walnut bread with espresso butter. For lunch there'll be a selection or sarnies on offer including scamorza, tomato, rocket and wild garlic mayo or a triple cheese toasty.
The wine list covers glasses at 125 and 175ml and starts at £20 while a short beer list includes local brewery Islington Steam lager.
