Yes, the Peruvian/Japanese Chotto Matte in Soho has always been a favourite of Hot Dinners readers and this is their main at-home meal kit, making it super easy for you to recreate some of the restaurant's hero dishes in the comfort of your own home. This kit features seven of those signature dishes, for two people.

How clear are the instructions?
Pretty clear. There's a useful list of equipment that you'll need - from martini glasses for the dessert through to what temperature the oven will need to be at. The video is by Chotto Matte owner Kurt Zdesar and Group Executive Chef Jordan Sclare where they take you through each dish step by step. All the packets are clearly marked and there's a mix of dishes you need to make and those you just need to heat up or plate. Here's the video run-through:
What kind of food is it?
Chotto Matte specialises in Nikkei cuisine - 'the marriage of Japanese and Peruvian fare.
Here's how it all came out:
Padron Peppers in den miso - an easy dish, just fry the padron peppers - their swap in for Japanese shishito peppers - and stir in the miso once the peppers are all nice and blistered.
Nikkei sashimi - you can make this a little ahead of dinner, slicing the yellowtail and then tossing it with onion, tomatoes and coriander, pouring over the truffle yuzu soy and topping with purple potato chips. This was gorgeous.
Pollo Picante - roasted chicken thighs brushed with causa and red and yellow anticucho sauces served on a bed of green cause (an easy warm in the bag job).
Black Cod Aji Miso with a Chili Miso Marinade, yuzu and chives - comparing our black cod to the one in the video we weren't sure whether it should have had more of the miso marinade on it, but it tasted great when it was roasted.
Asado De Tira - slow Cooked BBQ Beef served with a purple potato purée and teriyaki jus and chives. All that was needed here was to warm the two pouches of puree and beef and combine. Handy to have someone else go to all the effort of cooking that beef into submission for our enjoyment.
Chocolate crema with dulce de leche - this comes in a piping bag so all you need to do is find a nice glass to serve it in (they recommend a martini glass), assemble and then put back in the fridge until you're ready to start eating.
Overall thoughts:
This is the kind of kit we enjoy. It takes a lot of the guesswork out of cooking a cuisine you might not be familiar with and the results were both easy to achieve and pleasingly attractive on the plate. The standard kit would certainly elevate your weekday supper rotation while the nikkei box is perfect for a special occasion.
