These London restaurants are embracing Veganuary

Whether you’ve joined the thousands of diehards going vegan for the "Veganuary" or you just simply want to cut down on your animal product intake in the New Year, here are some of the restaurants that will be catering for you.

 

kittyhawk

The Kitty Hawk

The City’s Kitty Hawk is rolling out a three-course animal-free menu for January, featuring vegan classics like grilled cauliflower steak or roasted squash, plus more creative dishes like horseradish foam and oat crumble, or maple soya pannacotta. There’ll also be pineapple carpaccio, and mocktails if you’re feeling like being good.

Rola Wala 

Indian-inspired fast food joint Rola Wala has just launched a new black bean and noodle Spice Bowl with broccoli, served with your choice of toppings including Keralan Chickpea or Sweet Potato Saagwala. For those a touch health-conscious post-Christmas, it comes in at a meagre 500 calories, while still retaining an impressive 30 grams of protein.

The Canvas

The Canvas

Get a side of good vibes with your vegan cake at Shoreditch’s The Canvas, a social enterprise that’ll be dishing up advice, workshops and other events alongside their new 100% animal-free menu. Expect pulled jackfruit sandwiches, non-meatball marinara subs and a vegan Eggs Benedict.

Gillray’s Steakhouse

Gillray’s Steakhouse is taking on the Veganuary challenge with a new set menu for the month. It includes meat-free alternatives like cauliflower fritters with hollandaise, baked red onions with pearl barley and kale and an aubergine dahl with orange and coriander salad on the side. There’ll be accompanying mocktails for the extra-virtuous.

Yo! Sushi

Yo! Sushi

Yo! Are keeping their veggie-friendly streak going strong with three new dishes for the month - a green spinach gyoza, Agedashi Tofu and a spicy cauliflower with red chilli and spring onions. They’ll also be dropping their entire vegan/veggie ‘resolution’ menu to £2.80 until 19 January.

Flavour Bastard

Flavour Bastard is laying on a couple of new plant-based dishes for Veganuary. Expect miso and mango-glazed aubergine with peanut crumble, chickpea salads with rose harissa, and roast sweet potatoes with soy yoghurt and pomegranate popcorn at Soho’s self-proclaimed ‘cuisine-agnostic’ restaurant.

Farmacy

Farmacy

Notting Hill’s vegan-friendly Farmacy will be reeling in Londoners with an eye on nutrition with their super healthy Macro Bowls. It miraculously contains your entire five-a-day in a single serving, thanks to generous helpings of of seasonal greens, sweet potato, avocado, seaweed and quinoa, and all drizzled in a tangy miso and ginger.

Pollen Street Social

Jason Atherton’s Michelin-starred Pollen Street Social is a fine choice for any Veganuary outing, boasting a rather special 8-course vegan tasting menu. It comprises of goodies like a salted baked beetroot tartare, braised broccoli stem with lemon puree and toasted almonds. There’ll be a flight of organic wines to match too (as long as you’ve not sworn off booze for the month.)

Four Hundred Rabbits

Four Hundred Rabbits 

South Londoners on the hunt for a vegan pizza can head to Four Hundred Rabbits’ who’ll be whipping one up using squash pesto, wood-roasted beets, chickpeas, crispy onions, celery, sultanas, and a generous helping of Pip & Nut peanut butter. Best accompanied, we reckon, by one of their £4 negronis.

Paddington Central’s new floating restaurant Darcie & May Green has never been shy about shunning animal products for vegan-friendly alternatives. Head down to the canal for a jackfruit curry with turmeric rice, coconut sambal, house pickles and flatbread, crispy chickpea Byron bhel puri salad, or a vegan chocolate cake with coconut ganache.

Darwin & Wallace group

The collection of slick bars, including No 1 Duke Street and the No 197 Chiswick FIre Station are offering health-conscious picks that include a roast butternut squash salad with sticky short grain rice, smoked aubergine falafels with lemon and pepper tahini, and a PRESS charcoal lemonade - handy for stomachs that need a bit of TLC after the Christmas binge.

The Veganuary menu at All Star lanes runs from 8-31 Janauary but it's more of a ‘can’t believe it’s vegan’ vegan menu. Opt for a Spicy Nacho Burger or Texas kidney bean Hummus and finish with a warm apple and salted caramel turnover, topped with sweet soy milk ice cream.

The folks at Yard Sale pizza have teamed up with vegan street-food purveyor Biff’s Jack Shack, for a crispy jackfruit vegan pizza special. Featuring Biff’s Crispy Fried Jackfruit, Buffalo Sauce, Blue Cheese Sauce, Fresh ‘Slaw', Coriander, and a Yoghurt Dressing it's available from Monday 15th January.

Chef Chantelle Nicholson is bringing back her weekly vegan supper clubs at Tredwells. They kick off on Monday 15th Jan and run every week till 29 January. The five course menu will cost £36 per head with dishes including salt baked carrots, pine nut crumb, freekeh, roasted garlic aioli, and warm pear and ginger cake with pine nut creme, rosemary.
