Old gastropub The Ebury has had a major makeover and is reopening as No. 11 Pimlico Road this month. They've completely done away with the old boozer fittings and have freshened it right up. Over in one corner will be a marble cold-counter from which freshly baked morning pastries, crostini (crushed cannellini beans, garlic oil and herbs or bresaola with rocket and parmesan) and charcuterie will be served up during the day. A zinc top bar will dominate the room.
Along with a new look, the menu's been given a similar overhaul, offering everything from morning coffees and breakfast to dinner and nightcaps. Breakfasts will include house made granola with organic yoghurt and wild flower honey, blueberry pancakes with glazed bananas and whipped crème fraîche or roast sausage sandwich with onion marmalade on toasted focaccia.
For lunch, how about a grilled steak open sandwich with field mushrooms and taleggio as well as a lobster, shellfish and herb salad with crispy dill and lemon potatoes? Or maybe tomato, lemon and ricotta tart or the house burger? There's also smaller starters or sharing dishes to go with a beer or cocktail, including Szechuan & chilli salt prawns or skewers of spicy lime salmon with green salad and salsa verde or honey chicken with roast tomato and cumin. (Honestly, we're drooling just writing this up!)
The weekend brunch sounds worth trying and will feature both breakfast dishes or a whacking great Sunday roast.
Handily for locals, there'll also be an on-site wine shop with an apparently generous discount on each of the wines from the list if they’re taken away.
