Roofnic rooftop bar opens for the summer off Oxford Street

We can always tell the weather's getting better by the volume of emails we get about new alfresco spots and rooftop spaces opening up for the summer. But one new one, Roofnic, caught our attention, not least for its location. This rooftop popup is taking over the roof of the Marriot Hotel Park Lane from this month.

To get up to the roof, which has a capacity of 100, there's a secret entrance at the far end of Oxford Street near Marble Arch. The space itself will be decked out with AstroTurf flooring, wooden benches and window boxes of herbs and flowers. There's even a marquee should the British summer turn out to be a damp squib.

In charge of the space is Ashley Dawes - Restaurant General Manager at the Marriot who used to be Operations Director for Jonathan Downey's Rushmore Group. He's come up with a menu of picnic items - pulled pork tacos, beef rendang sliders, butternut squash salad with honey, wasabi lime and scorched sunflower and butterfinger cookie dough cheesecake or a rather good sounding pudding cup featuring salted caramel, smashed oreos, chocolate crumble honeycomb.

To drink there'll be healthy juices, hard shakes, cocktails and craft beers from Camden Brewery.

Roofnic opens 23 May 2015 at 535 Oxford St, London W1C 2QW. Opening hours are everyday 10am until 10pm. Keep up with their news on Twitter @Roofnic.
