Petit Bistro serves French-inspired in Leicester Square's new luxury hotel Victory House

What: Petit Bistro

In a nutshell: French food, Leicester Square style

Summing it all up: The folk behind Randall and Aubin are behind a new bistro that's just opened on Leicester Square, covering all the French-inspired bases a visitor to Central could need, from pancakes to fish and chips and steak.

The low-down

It’s Leicester Square’s turn to get a new restaurant, this time in the form of Victory House Hotel’s Petit Bistro. It may be a hotel restaurant (in the new Victory House hotel) but the folk behind it are long-time restaurateurs Ed Baines and Jamie Poulton who own Soho's Randall and Aubin. The bistro will be covering all the French-inspired bases a visitor to central London could need, from pancakes to fish and chips and steak.

It’ll be an all-day affair, so they’ll be opening the doors on their French-inspired restaurant bright and early with a breakfast menu that’s heavy on the eggs, including omelettes made with ingredients like caramelised shallots, or goat’s cheese. Or if you’re going down the sugary route, try the French toast with caramelised banana and creme Chantilly, or some dreamy-sounding apple tatin pancakes, which considering the location is an exceptionally affordable breakfast option at £6.

Evening time, things become a little more swish with steak hache, roast chicken and grilled Toulouse sausage on offer. Fish options include mussels in your choice of sauce, plus not-really-French-but-tourist-friendly option of fish and chips. There’s also soups, salads, and if you’re in the mood for them, Les Hamburgers, which includes the option of a foie gras truffle burger.

Ingredients will be a big focus for Petit Bistro, with cheese and bread sourced from Courtyard Dairy in Yorkshire, and free-range meat sourced from Aubrey Allen, where our dear old HRH also shops (or has her shopping done for her, we presume).

Finally, on the wine and cocktails front, there’ll be a hefty Menu des Vins with wine from around France picked with help from Jamie Paulton and BBC drinks expert Joe Wadsack, plus all the classic cocktails you could want from Margaritas to Negronis and Whiskey Sours.

We’re also very pleased to hear that more than half of the covers are to be found on a heated, covered terrace - making this a handy new alfresco spot for when the weather heats up. Eventually.
