What: Humble Grape Islington

In a nutshell:N1 gets a new wine shop and wine bar

Summing it all up: The Humble Grape boutique chain of wine bars and shops expands with its third opening, this time in Islington

The low-down

For a part of town awash with restaurants and pubs, Islington doesn't have that much in the way of bars, so we're pleased to hear of a new wine bar heading that way. Humble Grape Islington opens this summer - becoming the third in the boutique wine chain. They'll be opening on Theberton Street in the spot that was, most recently, Tinto Bar & Kitchen.

The neighbourhood wine bar and wine shop will focus on single vineyard wine with a list that's largely organic, biodynamic and sustainably sourced. Expect a wine shop, bar & wine library space leading through to a dining room filled with foliage and vines climbing the walls. As for the sustainable wine theme - they're really embracing that with every menu and label in the shop made from recycled crushed grapes (nope - we're not sure how they do that either).

As for food, Humble Grape's Executive Head Chef Kishen Raheja will use links with day boat fishermen from Mersea Island in Essex and award winning artisanal urban cheesemakers, Wildes Cheese to serve up dishes like:

  • Diver caught scallops with Laverstock farm black pudding & crispy leeks
  • Confit Orchard Farm pork belly, celeriac & apple remoulade
  • Burrata, purple sprouting broccoli, pumpkin seeds & basil oil.
