Harry and Megan choose Hackney's Violet Cakes as their wedding cake baker

Well today is a red letter day for East London bakery Violet Cakes as Kensington Palace announced this morning that she'll be the baker responsible for the royal wedding cake.

In a formal announcement this morning, Kensington Palace confirmed that Claire Ptak had been chosen by Prince Harry and Megan Markle to make their wedding cake.

"Prince Harry and Ms. Markle have asked Claire to create a lemon elderflower cake that will incorporate the bright flavours of spring. It will be covered with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers...[they're] looking forward to sharing the cake with guests at their wedding at Windsor Castle on May 19th."

Although this is a huge deal for the Hackney baker, it's not the biggest of surprises. For starters Claire is a Californian girl, just like Megan and the soon-to-be-royal bride previously interviewed Chef Ptak for her former lifestyle website, The Tig.

Expect to see queues out of the door on Wilton Way this weekend....
