Giorgio Locatelli to open second restaurant in St Pancras

Very interesting news reached Hot Dinners today regarding Michelin-starred chef Georgio Locatelli. Apparently Locatelli has signed up to open one of two landmark restaurants in the luxury Renaissance Marriott hotel currently being built as part of the St Pancras redevelopment. This would be Locatelli's second restaurant in London.

Back in February this year, developer Harry Handelsman whose company is behind St Pancras Chambers told Property Week that he 'admired the work' of hotelier Ong Beng Seng of the Met Hotel and wanted to bring in a big-name chef to open a restaurant at St Pancras. Locatelli would certainly fit that bill.

The five-star Renaissance Marriott hotel, which is expected to open in Spring 2011, will feature two restaurants and two bars, and if Locatelli's involvement is anything to go by, should be a great foodie destination. It also ramps up the hotel restaurant competition in London, currently hotting up with the Mandarin Oriental in Knightsbridge opening restaurants by Daniel Boulud and Heston Blumenthal this year.

Postscript:
On 20 April 2010 the PR for Locanda Locatelli told Hot Dinners that there were no plans to open a second restaurant in St Pancras, which is a real shame and begs the question which restaurant has just ordered a bunch of dumb-waiter lifts for its two-storey restaurant at St Pancras?!
