Huge, BAO-related news - if you’ve been desperate to visit the insanely popular Taiwanese steamed bun seller, but put off by the constant, looming queue that goes hand in hand with the place, you’ll now be able to book a table.
After a siege of requests for reservations, parties of four or more will now be able to reserve a spot in BAO’s Fitzrovia branch from today. Those who do so will find themselves seated in the downstairs open kitchen space, where they’ll be able to watch their dinner being made, and likely basking in the glory of having skipped the queue. BAO co-founder Shing said: “We hope this is good news as this will enable people to beat the queues at Fitzrovia, as well as beating the very cold British weather.”
If you’re not one of the lucky ones though, and find yourself once more queuing outside and stamping your feet in this already-bitter weather, there’s a small silver lining in the form of a new hot drinks menu. Queuing customers outside both the Soho and Fitzrovia branch will be able to request some toasty Taiwanese-style hot drinks to keep them warm as they wait. There’ll be a cockle-warming hot chocolate with salted plum, malt and Kavalan port finish (£7), or a festive hot spiced clementine, ginger and sake (£5). The drinks will also be available to take away, and if you like, without alcohol for a reduced price.
BAO Fitzrovia's booking line is on 0203 011 1632 (opens 12pm on Thursday 1 December) or you can book by emailing downstairs@baolondon.com. Reservations will be available for parties of four or more. BAO Fitzrovia is at 31 Windmill St, Fitzrovia, W1T 2JN. Opening hours are Monday to Saturday 12pm - 3pm and 5.30pm-10pm. Follow BAO on Twitter @bao_london
