We've known for a while that the folk behind popular Soho spot Blanchette were planning to open a place in Carnaby's Kingly Court. But they've moved faster than anticipated and Goldies is now open.
Billed as a "wood-fired dining experience" the focus of the restaurant is that grill. They'll be serving up a selection of small and large plates where the key connection is that smoky flavour that live fire cooking brings.
What you might not expect is the role that chips or frites play in the menu. There's a whole section devoted to them, hand-cut and cooked either in beef dripping or vegetable oil. There are then five dips you can choose from including Brazil BBQ, Andalusia and Pepper.
Other dishes on the launch menu are:
- Labneh with grilled peach, walnuts and mint
- Merguez Scotch egg with smoked harissa mayo
- Marinated baby chicken with smoked yoghurt
The ground floor restaurant will have space for diners outside as well as in, and there are stools up at the counter if you want to get up close and personal with all that live fire cooking.
