Capilungo is a Puglia-inspired café by day, wine bar by night in Covent Garden

Opening in Covent Garden, this Italian cafe and wine bar is very much a family affair.

Running things will be Gianluca Capilungo (former Bar Manager for Aqua) and Asia Capilungo (previously a chef at Soho House and Cubitt House) who've joined up with their uncle Luca Capilungo as well as Asia’s partner Huzefa Sajawal (co-owner and Executive Chef of Fatt Pundit). They've all teamed up to launch Capilungo, which is based on the cafes you might see in the Puglia city of Lecce.

Things will shift from day to night. By day it'll be a cafe, and pastries on the menu include the shortcrust pasticciotto pies on the menu, filled with custard, cherry or pistachio cream. They'll also have puff pastry rusticcos, with mozzarella and aubergine as well as pizzettas.

In the evening, they'll shift into wine bar mode, with the wines all coming from Puglia and a menu of  Lecce-style bar snacks and small plates. This is all just the first phase of opening too. In spring next year, they'll be adding an extra bar space downstairs too.

We're all for new wine bars, particularly in Covent Garden, so this could be very promising.
