Dishoom comes to Battersea

Dishoom comes to Battersea

This time last year, Dishoom went east to open a restaurant in Canary Wharf and now they're heading south of the river for the first time, to Battersea.

The Battersea Dishoom will be opening right next to the power station, and there's a little of that influence in the design, which is described as "fusing Bombay nostalgia and futurism". For the first time at any of the Dishooms, in a nod to the nearby dogs' home, they'll also be allowing dogs into the restaurant too.

Many of the dishes will be familiar to Dishoom fans, so you will be able to get a bacon naan or some House Black Daal, but this one will also have a brand new dish. The exclusive chef's special will be the Bhatti Chicken, marinated in black spices, for what they call "an earthy, smoky flavour and striking dark hue".  That'll be on the bone in whole or half portions. So Dishoom has joined London's current chicken craze.

As for the look of the place, the team has been inspired by graphic novels and has even created their own comic for the opening, working with illustrator Shazleen Kahn, to create "Choti Dishoom". So the design is intended to show an imagined 2023 Bombay through the eyes of the 1950s - all very retro-futurism. Part of that will include the Permit Room bar, so as with every Dishoom, this will be a place to linger with a cocktail.

As for the important part of getting a table, you'll be able to book for breakfast and lunch, but after 5.45pm, you can only book a table for six or more. So expect the odd queue here too.
