The Wolseley City prepares to open in the heart of the City of London

Updated 24/10/23 with opening date

Twenty years after Messrs Corbin & King turned a former car showroom into one of London's best-known restaurants, the Wolseley is getting ready to welcome a sibling restaurant to the fold. The Wolseley City will be the second new opening from The Wolseley Hospitality Group (created after Corbin and King's departure), after Manzi's opens in Soho in the summer.

The new opening comes after the first spin-off, Cafe Wolseley, closed at Bicester Shopping Village last summer.

The City restaurant, we're told, will be much larger than the original with two private dining rooms and three bars. Fans of the original will feel quite at home here though as they're going to draw inspiration for the design of this restaurant from the Piccadilly space. In case you're wondering where it is exactly, it's taking over the ground floor of the old House of Fraser building on King William Street which already features another restaurant on the rooftop, Wagtail.

Similarly, there'll be plenty of recognisable details in the food offering with an ‘all-day’ menu featuring the kind of European grand cafe dishes it's so well known for, like their schnitzels, soufflé Suisse, steak tartare and calf's liver with bacon. But there will be some new dishes on offer that are exclusive to the City branch.

And as the original does a roaring trade at breakfast with hedge funders clamouring for tables for business deals, the City breakfast offering with be serving up everything from fried haggis with duck eggs to smoked haddock kedgeree to City traders.
