This is a turn up for the books. You don't normally think of Shaftesbury Avenue when you're looking for a cool place to drink in the West End. But a new dive bar being opened by the Boxer brothers, Frank and Jackson, sounds like it'll be the hottest place to be this autumn.
Below Stone Nest sees the brothers behind Brunswick House, Orasay and Frank's Cafe in Peckham, take on the bar space underneath arts organisation Stone Nest. Older Londoners will know the place better as the old Limelight club.
The drinks list is going to be short and sweet with just one low-intervention house white, house red, an orange wine, a rosé, a cava and a Champagne by the glass or bottle. To flesh that out there will also be a specials board with wines from Brunswick House on offer.
"The opportunity to create a beautiful old fashioned dive bar in an extraordinary historic space in the heart of the west end is thrilling," says Franks. "My greatest ambition would be to establish some of the sense of joyous optimism and creative anarchy which typified the early days of Frank’s Cafe, by keeping the prices low, the offering simple and unimpeachable, and the space welcoming to everyone.”
So a Soho dive bar like Frank's Bar? Sounds like an immediate hit to us.
