Idris Elba is getting back into the bar business with a new launch in King's Cross. He already opened The Parrot in Aldwych - but this is quite a departure from that cocktail bar. This time he's teamed up with founder of Connaught Wine Cellars, David Farber, to create a bar and wine shop from Porte Noire (if you haven't heard of them, it's a wine and Champagne brand).
They're taking a space at Gasholders - that's the circular King's Cross development that sits within the Victorian gasholder structure in King's Cross.
Porte Noire will have both a bar and restaurant. For food, we're told to expect Oeuf Meurette (a Burgundian dish of poached eggs in a red wine sauce) and Slow cooked beef cheek, pommes purée, leek persillade. The wines naturally will be a big draw, with 800 available and they say they'll have "one of the largest fine wine tasting rooms in London".
Could well be one to watch, particularly if you manage to grab a glance of Idris while sipping your Champagne.
