Hackney Coterie brasserie and wine bar takes over the old L'entrepot site on Dalston Lane

If a hospitality space can be said to retain an imprint from previous uses, then 230 Dalston Lane seems determined to remain a wine bar. Previously L'Entrepot wine bar from the folks at Borough Wines, it's about to find new life as a 'warehouse brasserie' and wine bar.

As revealed by industry website CODE, Hackney Coterie sees the man behind Crouch End's super popular neighbourhood spot Lyon's Seafood & Wine Bar teaming up with experience sommelier Kelvin McCabe. McCabe was head sommelier at places like Zuma and Roka before heading up the drinks operation for Adam Handling's Frog group.

Together they're getting ready to open this new wine bar which will also be part bottle shop and deli, and a brasserie. They're not yet revealing who'll be running the kitchen but they anticipate a menu of small plates, platters of charcuterie and cheese and a seasonal focus.

Dishes could include:

  • pork cheek and smoked ham hock terrine (served with pickled chilli and cucumber)
  • grilled langoustines with seaweed butter
  • nettle tagliatelle with gorgonzola and walnuts
  • stone bass tartare with truffle ponzu

The all day venue will serve coffee and pastries in the morning, and are promising a must-try brunch at the weekends.

On the wine front a recent Instagram post suggested that, unlike a lot of bars in this part of East London, they won't be focusing purely on natural wines. “Anything that bangs is what we’ll be concentrating on”, Lyon tells CODE. "The only real primary concern will be small-scale vineyards."
