In a week where car sales have been dented by news of a ban on petrol and diesel vehicles, comes this shiny nugget of a story about a car showroom in North London that has found its own way of diversifying.
This week Hexagon Classics - on the border between East Finchley and Highgate - has joined up with wine expert and author, Bert Blaize to open Bottles ‘N’ Jars wine and deli. It's taken over part of the classic car dealership on the Great North Road.
The two-floor store - they're describing it as a "luxury wine and deli epicentre" will sell wine, artisan coffee and deli treats like jars of salted caramel figs, squid ink fideos, vinegars infused with cherries as well as top-class olive oils. There'll be fresh bread from a local baker, the coffee is by Notes and Holly Chaves of Wine & Rind has picked the cheese.
The wine choice is down to Blaize, the co-author of Which Wine When who also heads up the bars and restaurants at new hotel Birch and was previously at Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons and The Clove Club in Shoreditch. He's promised a range of new winemakers and classics too. Come the new year a series of masterclasses, tastings and talks are planned.
So, if you're looking for a nice bottle of wine to celebrate your purchase of a Jaguar E-Type, this is the place for you.
