Wimbledon high-end deli Vallebona are on the move. After 20 years building a name for themselves in the area, owners Stefano and Naoko Vallebona are about to open their first high street shop there. The opening of Table @ Vallebona on Wimbledon High Street this weekend coincides with the closure to the public of their original HQ, the company's warehouse on Weir Road.
Selling all manner of lovely Italian food and wine, the new shop takes over an old Grade II fire station which will give it plenty of room to showcase its wares. And if Italian cheese and cured meats are your thing, you'll be able to have a good time wandering aimlessly in their cheese and charcuterie maturation room.
On offer will be loads of wines, pastas, antipasti, local Italian spirits, artisan kitchen accessories and hampers. They also have, thanks to Naoko's influence, a burgeoning Japanese food business with top tier soy sauce, charred bamboo and amazing knives on sale.
If you're not from around these here parts and didn't manage to catch them at their pop up store last year at Coal Drops Yard, the thing to know about Vallebona is that they're hugely respected by London's top restaurants. Over the years they've built up a loyal following among chefs, supplying places like The River Cafe, Le Gavroche, Alain Ducasse and Bocca di Lupo.
You can expect to see chefs from those restaurants turning up to events at the new store - there's a large outside terrace with room for 20 people to dine and that's going to be used from next summer as a wine bar and events space.
