During the lockdown, author and restaurateur Ravinder Bhogal has been very busy. Not only has she, her partner (in life as well as business) Nadeem Lalani and the team behind Jikoni been cooking for the homeless but they've also found time to come up with a brand new concept.
Comfort & Joy will be a sister brand to the existing Marylebone restaurant - delivering vegetarian meals across London. "We wanted to lead the way in a well thought out, sustainable, vegetarian home delivery brand," says Ravinder.
To that end, she's come up with six meal boxes which will be available to order on a biweekly rotation. Each can be either ordered ready to eat, or ready to heat. The launch menu features boxes including:
- The Namaste Box - Sweet and Sour Baby Aubergine Curry with Spicy Nut Butter, Alphonso Mango and Bramley Apple Dhal, French Bean, Coconut and Cashew Nut Thoran and Lemon Rice.
- The Zen Box - Crispy Caramel Cauliflower, Sticky Garlic Rice, Cold Silken Tofu with Black Vinegar and Charred Pakchoi with Sesame Dressing and Crispy Shallots.
- The Habibi Box - Roasted Cauliflower with Chickpeas, Dates and Green Tahini, Omani Lime Dhal with Saffron Yoghurt and Soft Herbs, Sesame, Harissa and Honey Roasted Rainbow Carrots with White Lake Fetish and Hazelnuts and Sour Cherry Koshari.
There's also been some serious thought given to sustainability and community - so the food containers are 100% compostable and every box ordered also means a meal for someone vulnerable, provided by Nishkam SWAT’s Homeless Project.
