One of Islington's most popular cafés is Maison d'Etre, just on the opposite side of Highbury Corner from the station (right next to another Islington fave, Black Axe Mangal). They've been doing storming business there for the past few years in a tiny space and now they've expanded with a second cafe, Maison Bleue.
The second spot is a mere 5 minutes walk away, so if you've ever wandered into a packed Maison d'Etre, there's a perfect nearby alternative - and it's a bigger space inside too. At the moment, expect the usual excellent coffee, cakes and sandwiches and the odd special - but there's clearly an opportunity for them to do more in the space. They're currently looking at what planning will let them do, so watch this space for more info soon.
