The World's 50 Best Bars 2018 were revealed last night with Dandelyan, Ryan Chetiyawardana’s bar at the Mondrian Hotel claiming top spot.
In a surprise move,Chetiyawardana announced in an Instagram post earlier this week that he would be ‘killing off’ the bar. "Iit makes sense to burn it down, start afresh, and rise again as something brighter, shinier and more fitting of where we’re (all) now at." he said. But will he still do that, now it's been named the best drinking hole in the world? Let's see.
Dandelyan switched places with The American Bar at the Savoy, now in the #2 spot – despite losing head bartender Erik Lorincz in April.
Also in the top 10 were more of our favourite London and international drinking spots – The bar at NoMad Hotel, Connaught Bar as well as recent popup favourites The Clumsies from Athens and NYC’s Dante.
As for the rest – London claimed 10 of the top 50 – and we were delighted to see some of our favourite smaller independent and neighbourhood bars such as Coupette and Three Sheets and Scout also gain recognition.
