What: Harry's Bar
In a nutshell: Mayfair club offshoot opens by Oxford Street
Summing it all up: From weekend brunches to shopping lunches and ciccheti on the terrace, Richard Caring's hoping to bring a bit of La Dolce Vita to just off Oxford Street.
The low-down
Ever since opening its first spin-off restaurant Harry's Dolce Vita in Knightsbridge, it's been expected that Caprice Holdings would continue to expand the brand. And lo it has come to pass with the news that Harry's Bar will be opening on James Street this October.
Just round the corner from Selfridges, the all-day spot will mimic the Knightsbridge sibling with 1950s-style surroundings and a menu of Italian classics. So you can kick off with brunch, enjoy a lunch of pizza or pasta and then start the evening with spritzes and cicchetti on the large terrace.
The food side of things is being run by Diego Cardoso who joined the group to open Harry’s Dolce Vita and before that was at Murano. "James Street and St Christopher’s Place is a neighbourhood I know very well and I've always loved how busy and exciting that area is," Diego told Hot Dinners.
"We are opening with our signature dishes that have proved favourites at our Knightsbridge restaurant, like our Harry’s truffle tagliolini and seafood spaghetti. We will also be adding a new Bacari menu for those looking for a quick afternoon snack and drink. We’re really looking forward to getting to know our new neighbours over a pizza and our signature Negronis.’
As a bit of background the original Harry's Bar was first opened by Mark Birley in 1979 and acquired by Caprice Holding's boss Richard Caring just over a decade ago. And yes it's named after the Venetian original.
