- Le Caprice is closing after 38 years in business
Another casualty of the pandemic/lockdown was revealed at the weekend, with the news that Le Caprice is to close. Once again, Bloomberg's Richard Vines was first with the news.
- The Ledbury makes staff redundant and will remain closed 'indefinitely'
While restaurants cling on as best they can until they're allowed to reopen, some have - like Leonardo di Caprio in Titanic - let go of the liferaft and slowly slipped away. It's fair to say that some permanent closures probably aren't particularly unexpected (like Wahlburgers) but others most definitely are.
So we're both surprised and saddened to hear today that two Michelin-starred The Ledbury, considered one of London's very best
... - Nobu set wheels in motion to close their Mayfair restaurant
It's had more footballers and A-listers dining it than almost any other restaurant in town, but that hasn't prevented Nobu from taking the decision to close their Mayfair restaurant.
According to a story in Property Week, the Nobu Group have decided to surrender the lease on

... - Picture Marylebone and Picture Fitzrovia announce shock closure
Sad news over the weekend as the team behind Picture announced that they'll be closing both their restaurants, on Portland Street and in Marylebone, from next month.
After six years, they've made the difficult decision to close up both businesses on 5 October. For "many boring reasons" they've found it hard to keep going and "we are making this decision....whilst we are in a solid position to close the restaurants properly without leaving
... - Corbin and King are closing Bellanger in Islington
London has been no stranger to big restaurant closures over the past few months, but one of the biggest was announced last night. In an email, Jeremy King of Corbin & King, revealed that they'd be closing Bellanger in Islington this summer.
"It is with great sadness I must inform you that, after over three years trading, we have decided to cease trading Bellanger on Sunday 11th August.

... - Asia de Cuba is closing after 20 years - but what's taking its place?
It's all change at the St Martins Lane Hotel today with the announcement that they're closing their 20 year old Asia de Cuba restaurant this week. Thursday will be the final day of service for the Chino-Latino restaurant which, to begin with, will be replaced by a popup restaurant for the next month or so.
The popup, St Martins Lane Kitchen, will take its cue from the foods of Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. So think Soft Shell Crab, Vietnamese Pomelo
... - The Palmerston in East Dulwich is closing after its lease wasn't renewed
It's not easy finding the perfect local in London. You have to kiss a lot of frogs (or drink a lot of duff pints) before you discover the one for you. So imagine the dismay for South Londoners to read yesterday that one of their favourite pubs is closing.
The Palmerston in East Dulwich took everyone by surprise when it posted on Instagram to say that they'd be closing up shop in June.
"It is with a heavy heart to all our customers friends and supporters
... - Iconic Soho cafe Patisserie Valerie closes its doors on Old Compton Street
It's not been a good week for Soho and Old Compton Street in particular. Five days ago, we heard that Ed's Easy Diner (on Old Compton Street since 1987) had closed its doors. And now it's the turn of Patisserie Valerie.
It's all sounding very familiar. A company starts with a bit of gentle growth in the 80s. It's then taken over
... - Ed's Easy Diner owner converts its original Soho spot to Slim Chickens
London's restaurant scene is constantly in churn - with new restaurants replacing old. That's the nature of the beast. But even we admit to being a bit surprised at our emotional reaction to the news yesterday that Soho classic Ed's Easy Diner was no more.
Reported in a tweet by The Guinea's GM Oisin Rogers, it transpires that the American diner on the corner of Old Compton Street and Moor Street has been taken over by another American import -
... - MEATliquor are leaving their original W1 restaurant - but they need somewhere to go
Well this really is the end of an era. The original burger boys that started this whole crazy thing, MEATliquor, are being turfed out of their original restaurant site. In a tweet today they revealed that a developer plans to level the carpark building they're in and encouraged customers to find them a new home, adding a serious sweetener of £20k for the person who gets them into the right central London site.
... - Popular Hackney restaurant Legs is closing but this isn't the end
Ever since opening in 2016, Hackney restaurant Legs has been building a loyal fanbase. But now it seems they're on the move.

... - Arthur's Cafe in Dalston is closing for good
"Arthur’s has never closed, not even when bombs rained all around. Every weekday on the dot of 7am, the doors open and the faithful flood in."
Sadly, the words that the then-Guardian restaurant reviewer Marina O'Loughlin wrote in her love letter to Dalston cafe Arthur's will seem pretty poignant next
... - Bethnal Green's Typing Room restaurant is closing at the end of June
We're always sad to hear of a London restaurant closing, particularly any that have managed to survive their first year, let alone three more. But these things happen and yesterday Bethnal Green's The Typing Room sent out an email to its customers saying that they'd be doing their last service at the end of June.
According to the mailout the head chef Lee Westcott "has decided to pursue new culinary ambitions and will focus on other future
... - Galvin Bistrot de Luxe on Baker Street is to close
We're really sorry to hear this morning of the imminent closure of Galvin Brothers Bistrot de Luxe on Baker Street. The announcement came today as Chris and Jeff Galvin said; "It’s time to move on...in the world’s great cities things do not stand still. Tastes change and also, as creative chefs, we are restless and now want to do new things not just endlessly repeat the same style of cooking.”
The 12-year-old restaurant really was a game-changer when it
