• Anzu is coming to St James' Market from the people behind Tonkotsu

  There's always a lot of excitement when a new Tonkotsu opens, but now the people behind it, Emma Reynolds and Kensuke Yamada, are coming up with something brand new. They're opening Anzu in the new St James development and they're describing it as a Japanese brasserie - "good food and amazing service in fine but relaxed surroundings" .

• Japanese meets Italian at Sumosan Twiga

  

  Sumosan Twiga will open in Sloane Street in November, after the Japanese half of the venture makes the short jump from its previous home in Mayfair. The new restaurant will serve award-winning sushi, sashimi and other high-end Japanese hot dishes alongside classic Italian. There’ll also be an express lunch bento box available for £29.

• Kiri Japanese izakaya launches in Mayfair from Chisou team

  

  Mayfair's Japanese restaurant Chisou has just opened Kiri. They're describing it as the baby of a family which also has restaurants in Knightsbridge and Chiswick. What that means in practice is that it'll serve modern Japanese dishes with some Korean influences. So you'll find Korean fried chicken alongside miso black cod and spiced sweet potato croquettes alongside hirata buns and kimchee fried rice with Japanese mushrooms.

  If you've already been to Jason Atherton's most recent opening, Sosharu, in Clerkenwell you may have wondered what was behind the curtain in one corner of the room.   It's fair to say that the Edgware Road probably isn't the first place you'd think of dining in some sort of modernist Japanese sky high pub. But that's exactly what's opening there this Spring. KOJAWAN - the name is an amalgam of Korea, Japan and Taiwan - is the brainchild of Bjorn Van Der Horst (Greenhouse, La Noisette, Eastside Inn) and Omar Romero (Rhodes Twenty Four, Rosewood).

• Wazen neighbourhood Japanese to open in King's Cross

  

  The slew of new and interesting restaurants opening up in King's Cross is set to continue with news that an authentic Japanese neighbourhood restaurant Wazen is opening there next month.

  What's really important is who's in the kitchen and at Wazen that's head chef Toshimasa Tanahashi who heads to KX via 30 years spent in the kitchens of Japanese restaurants Matsuri in St James, Kyubi at the Arts Club in Mayfair and Kouzu in Belgravia.
