Club Gascon

clubgascon

French | The City

Run by chef Pascal Aussignac, this Smithfield restaurant has been around for a couple of decades - an impressive feat in London - and has held a Michelin star for many of those years. So it's very much a London institution. The menu focuses on Gascon cuisine, so yes there is foie gras.

"Being 20 years old and Michelin-starred (with prices to match), Club Gascon might have attained ‘classic’ status, but with St John, Luca and The Modern Pantry within walking distance, it seems masochistic to blow around £100 a head on dinner here, instead. Club Gascon is a nice-looking club, sure. It’s just not one that I could recommend joining." READ REVIEW

"A turrón is usually a tablet of nougat; here it is a slab of foie served with a Bailey’s and passion fruit sauce, a sweet and savoury flavour bomb that was hands down the best thing I have eaten all year." READ REVIEW

"To stay fit (and incidentally almost preternaturally young) Pascal practices fencing. My lunch companion offers the conclusion that perhaps there should be less parry, more thrust." READ REVIEW
