Aldgate East is welcoming Ara, a third venture for restaurateur and self-taught chef, Murat Kilic. Ara’s menu will be doing away with constraints of borders and focusing solely on flavour, while nearby thriving sister restaurant, Amber, will continue its bias towards Middle Eastern and Mediterranean.
At Ara, guests can expect seasonal produce and ingredient-led cooking using vibrant global flavours - think corn ribs with umami dust, burrata served with wild garlic pistachio pesto and apricot purée or mussels skewers in roasted chicken wing butter sauce.
The interior, which is the work of Nina Woodcroft (who designed Silo), favours repurposed materials like galvanised steel offcuts for light installations, pineapple leather for banquettes and recycled plastic for table tops. An entirely sustainable wine list will sit alongside spirits from waste produce by Discarded Spirits Co. and 58 and Co.
