London Restaurants - North London
King's Cross , London N1C 4TB
The restored King's Cross hotel features a 90-cover restaurant, Plum + Spilt Milk which has views over the King’s Cross piazza, and St Pancras International. The dining room features 17, three-metre floor to ceiling sash windows and 120 hand blown pendant lights. The all day dining menu starts with breakfast and brunch through to dinner. The menu will soon have dishes from Mark Sargeant who is taking over the food for the hotel from May.
Granary Building, 1 Granary Square, London N1C 4AA
The original opened up in Exmouth Market to great reviews and they haven't looked back since. Now in multiple locations across town, this was Caravan's second opening, and one of the first places to open on Granary Square. Coffee remains a big thing, supplied by their nearby roastery. Food-wise, they serve what they call a "food well-travelled" menu all-day and their brunch is one of the most popular in town.
42 Gloucester Avenue, Primrose Hill, London NW1 8JD
Nadra's original Chiswick restaurant is a hit with the locals and this sees him moving north to Primrose Hill. Expect a menu with British, European and Asian ingredients as well as a martini bar.
79 Highgate Road, London NW5 1TL
This venture from Soho House has opened beneath the Pizza East Kentish Town and focuses solely on selling rotisserie chicken using their bespoke technique.
79 Highgate Rd, London NW5 1TL
Behind Pizza East in Kentish Town, Soho House has set up a new burger joint offering "dirty" burgers to eat there or take away...
80 Liverpool Road, London N1 0QD
This is the third gastropub from the people behind the Lady Ottoline and the Princess of Shoreditch. It's taken over the place of the former Islington Tap and will be making rustic food with freshly sourced meat and fish while making plenty use of its wood-fired oven. In the kitchen is Swedish chef Robbin Holmgren whose had stints at St John and St John Bread & Wine and has also run supperclubs with the Clove Club (who now co-run the Ten Bells).
370 St John Street, London EC1V 4NN
The Gate first started in London over 30 years ago, long before vegetarian and vegan menus became a big thing. They've been serving up quality vegetarian fare for years and have earned a big following as a result. As you'd expect, much of the food is plant-based and there's a strong vegan selection too (and their wine list is entirely vegan).
1 Blenheim Terrace, London NW8 0EH
Ed Shaerf, formerly chef at the Ivy, has taken over this restaurant and its huge open terrace with the backing of David Moore (who is behind L'Autre Pied and Pied a Terre). Expect a menu that takes classic dishes from the 70s and 80s and gives them a modern twist.
127-129 Parkway, London NW1 7PS
Camden is better known for its independents, rather than celebrity restaurants such as this one from Gordon Ramsay, which is just one of a whopping 28 in London that he owns. It's an all-day bistro with a relaxed setting. The mostly European and British menu features dishes such as spicy tuna tartare, fish and chips and steaks from the grill.
24 York Way, London N1 9AA
Located in the gradually up and coming area of King's Cross, The Fellow offers the usual gastropub fare. You'll also find a handy roof terrace if you want to, understandably, escape from King's Cross street level.
108 Parkway, Camden, London NW1 7AN
Owner David Upton was inspired to open Coast by his grandparents who live in St Ives. Paintings from Cornish artists line the walls and the menu emphasis is firmly on sustainable seafood.
73 Haverstock Hill, Chalk Farm, London NW3 4SL
Modern Iranian restaurant serving essentially good Persian food.
90 York Way, King's Cross, London N1 9AG
This King's Place restaurant is in a super setting especially during the summer months with a massive terrace opening onto the canal. The menu is modern British, and you'll find all the meat here sourced from the restaurant's own farm in Northumberland.
168 Highgate Road, Kentish Town, London NW5 1QS
It takes a lot to make yet another gastropub opening stand out from the crowd in London but the Bull and Last appears to have stuck to the tried and tested formula of serving simply fantastic food. They call themselves a Pub and Kitchen, but reviewers felt the food surpassed usual gastropub fare to be truly gourmet.
