It wouldn't be right to end National Afternoon Tea Week without at least trying something served on china and accompanied by a lovely pot of Darjeeling. So Hot Dinners headed off to The Beaumont yesterday to check out their latest wheeze.
As you might expect from anywhere run by Messrs Corbin & King, attention to detail is all. And the new cake trolley that debuted a few weeks ago at this Mayfair hotel is totally on point.
Head Pastry Chef Pierre Storti has given the traditional afternoon tea a bit of a shake down, bringing in some distinctly Transatlantic flavours. The whole thing is a much lighter (thankfully) take on the usual carb and cake fest. So you start with a selection of three mini American sandwiches - a pitch perfect reuben, a mini lobster roll, and a cucumber bagel.
Then, an antique cake trolley rolls across the hotel lobby to you, groaning with all manner of sweet treats. Choose from three cakes - a gluten-free coffee and pecan, red velvet and Jimmy’s chocolate cake - before finishing off with a selection from arange of macarons, candies and other treats.
The Cake Trolley is available daily between 3pm and 6pm in The Beaumont Lobby.
