Test Driving Rambla's new Menu del Dia

rambla

Who doesn't love a cracking set lunch deal? Right now it seems one of the top spots for doing just that in Soho is Rambla. Having heard that they had a new Menu del Dia in place - and it being a while since we were last in - we decided to head back to try it. And it's good to see that the place, besides being rammed, is still turning out freaking fantastic food.

If you haven't been before, this Dean Street restaurant is run by chef and restaurateur Victor Garvey, who most recently brought us the lovely Sibarita and Encant. On the menu you'll find the Catalan food inspired by Garvey’s childhood in Barcelona.

The Menu del Dia at Rambla runs every weekday lunchtime from 12-4pm and you get two courses for £15 and three for £18 which includes a glass of house wine and coffee. Dishes include prawn-stuffed tempura courgette flower, spinach croquetas and - in our view one of the best desserts in town the torrija caramelised bread and butter pudding with pistachio and raspberry sorbet.

Here's a look at what we had:

ramblacourgettePrawn-stuffed tempura courgette flower served up with romanesco sauce, orange and guindilla - light as a feather batter and a punchy sauce.

ramblacannoliBraised oxtail canelones with a Nevat cheese sauce and caramelised onions - the very definition of comfort food.

ramblacroquettasRambla won this year's Croqueta Challenge, so you can be confident they turn out first rate croquetas. These are the spinach croquetas which come with a toasted pine nut alioli

ramblapuddingMake sure you leave room for dessert - this Catalan bread and butter pudding is the business.
