Test Driving the Pizza Pilgrims Frying Pan Pizza Kit

trying out the pizza pilgrims frying pan pizza kitYou'll never go back to supermarket pizzas again...

So what exactly are these frying pan pizza kits you speak of?

They're the brainchild of London pizza group Pizza Pilgrims. During the lockdown, with folk not able to eat in their restaurants, they've adapted their offering to sell these DIY at home pizza kits.

What's their unique selling point?

If you don't have a pizza oven at home (and who of us do?) then these pizzas, which you make in a frying pan and finish under the grill, are as close as you can get to the real deal.

So how does it work?

Each kit contains the ingredients you'll need to make two Neapolitan style margarita pizzas. Here's our step-by-step guide.

It comes with a leaflet with basic instructions, but there's also a link to a more useful video on their website showing you how to make it. Use that.

If you're worried about all that packaging, then it's good to know that the pots are all made from a renewable material made from plants and are compostable.

Stretch out the pizza as per the video (we weren't the best at that, which is why our efforts resemble more deep-pan pizzas than the usual Neapolitan versions). Then put the pizza base in the hot frying pan and assemble with the other ingredients.

So how was the final pizza?

It was just as chewy and delicious as the real thing - if not quite as beautifully formed as a proper pizzaiolo would have done it. Crucially, it was a million times nicer than any supermarket pizza that you'd throw in the oven.

OK, I'm sold. How do I get one?

The pizza kits are available to order on their website or you can also get them from Deliveroo. There's a vegan kit too if you'd prefer that. They cost £12 and feed two. Early days saw them sell out in minutes, but we're assured that production is being ramped up and hundreds should be available every day.

Hot Dinners receive a pizza kit courtesy of Pizza Pilgrims.
