Test Driving the Moët & Chandon Champagne Bar at Harrods - fizz and fashion under the same roof

moet et chandon champagne bar at harrods reviewLobster and Champagne - a perfect food and drink pairing

So what should we know about this new bar in Harrods?

This is the latest in a flurry of new openings and activity at the Knightsbridge store, coming hard on the high heels of Harrods' Angelo Musa patisserie and Jimmy Choo cafe openings. It's the Champagne house's largest stand-alone Champagne bar in Europe with seats for 34 up at the counter and at tables dotted around the bar (including some great people-watching tables by the window).

Where is it?

You'll find the bar on the ground floor of the store, towards the rear next to Kylie Cosmetics. Entrances 2 and 2a are the nearest and it's pretty well signposted from there.

Where should we sit?

If there's a group of you, then the tables by the window overlooking Basil Street would probably be best - otherwise it's up at the bar. That said, we did notice that the ends of the bar are designed in such a way that they'd be great for a group of four (see the pic below).

moet et chandon champagne bar at harrods reviewIf you're there either dropping by as a solo shopper for a glass, or with a friend, then up at the bar is your best bet. It's pretty spectacular looking.

So what's on the menu? Champagne, obviously...

By the glass, bottle and magnum, this is a place to delve into Moet's cellars with everything from a glass of non-vintage Champagne at £16 up to a 1959 Grand Vintage Magnum at £4,400 on offer.

moet et chandon champagne bar at harrods reviewWe enjoyed a bottle of Moët & Chandon Impérial Rosé at £99 but you could also opt for one of their Champagne-based cocktails or even - if you have a non-drinking member of your party - one of three alcohol-free cocktails.

But there's also quite an enticing bar snacks menu, most of which we had a go at.

moet et chandon champagne bar at harrods reviewSeas the Moment - we kicked off with this punningly titled snack of poached lobster with miso and yuzu (£14)

moet et chandon champagne bar at harrods reviewThe World Is Your Oyster - Rock oysters topped with ribbons of pear and cucumber with a thimble of Oscietra caviar to finish. (£9)

moet et chandon champagne bar at harrods reviewCheese Délice - a Burrata Stracciatella, spicy Kimchi & black sesame toastie (£12). Kimchi and burrata isn't a common pairing but it turned out to be an inspired choice.

moet et chandon champagne bar at harrods reviewNot Another Faux Pas (£10) - a really passable alternative to any meaty pate, let alone foie, this was made with mushrooms, rhubarb and ginger and served with gold leaf, of course.

moet et chandon champagne bar at harrods reviewChoux Love filled with mango & passion fruit diplomat cremes (£10) - cute and definitely Insta-worthy.

moet et chandon champagne bar at harrods reviewMoët Caramel - a take on the muselet cap on the Moet bottle featuring a crunchy biscuit-based, 66% dark chocolate mousse and lots of salted caramel (£10)

moet et chandon champagne bar at harrods reviewWhen Life Gives You Lemons - a perfect cube of lemon verbena mousseline and confit lemon.

Anything else we should know?

This is a bit of a left-field one, but we did note just how low the calorie count was on all of the bar snacks here. The lobster bites were 81 calories and most of the dishes clocked in at under 400 calories. If you fancy a drink and a bar snack and still want to fit into that body con Mugler dress or Celine suit you've had your eye on, this might be the perfect place for you.

Overall thoughts:

We're rather partial to a good in-store bar (more of our favourites can be found here) so the arrival of a rather beautiful new Champagne bar that's easy to dive into is something to be welcomed. Sure, it's a pricey treat, but if you're already shopping in Harrods, we're going to presume the cost of a glass of fizz isn't something that's going to cause you too much stress.
