Where to eat in the relaunched Harrods Dining Hall

The Sushi by Masa counter takes up the centre section of the new Dining Hall.

It's been four years since Harrods first unveiled their glittering new Dining Hall. That's a lifetime in retail years, making it the perfect time for a wholesale revamping of the food offering there. Not only have four new restaurants arrived, but they've also extended the opening hours to 10.30pm from Tuesday to Saturday. To accompany the new opening hours there will also be live music and they've brought in mixologists to create cocktail pairings for all the new menus.

Hot Dinners was invited down to do a musical chairs tour of each of the restaurants there. Here's our guide (and note all the portions here are mini versions as we were trying so much).

Sushi by Masa

Chef Masayoshi (‘Masa’) Takayama has three Michelin stars in New York and this is his first foray across the Atlantic. His sushi bar in the hall takes pride of place with two counters and 40 seats running down the centre of the dining hall. Here you can either go a la carte or opt for the £150 tasting menu, which might sound pricey but could actually save you money in the long run.

The menu offers sushi by the piece, rolls and temaki and is supported by a range of small dishes like foie gras tacos, eggplant with yuzu miso and turbot with caviar butter and lime.

Kinoya Ramen

Chef Neha Mishra's award-winning restaurant from Dubai is making its UK debut here at Harrods. We tried all four of the (fantastic) broths that form the basis of the ramens that'll be on offer here in London - spicy miso, shoyu, duck and tonkotsu.

There's also a range of izakaya dishes to choose from too.

Assembly Mezze & Skewers

Greek chef Athanasios Kargatzidis (aka ‘Chef Tommy’) owns Baron Beirut in Lebanon (in the 50 Best Restaurant list for Middle East & Africa). Here in London, his 25-seat spot is all about the mezze. Do not leave without making sure you've tried his pita which comes topped with the most insanely delicious whipped spiced butter.

Kerridge's Fish and Chips

One of the few restaurants retaining their spot in the Dining Hall is chef Tom Kerridge's Fish & Chips. There are 22 seats here to sit up at the counter and enjoy day-boat fish from Cornwall. The deep-fried fish comes in a fabulous gluten-free batter - just make sure to dunk your chips in Kerridge's Matson curry sauce for good measure.

Pasta Evangelists by Perbellini

We've all seen and probably tried this pasta delivery service but the arrival of Giancarlo Perbellini, the Michelin two-starred chef behind Casa Perbellini in Verona has certainly upped the ante for the pasta folk. His menu here includes a range of antipasti and pasta dishes.

The Grill

Another returning restaurant, this is Harrods' own-label restaurant here in the Dining Hall. As you might expect it's more of a carnivore's feast with beef dry-aged for 32 days in a Himalayan salt cellar, and a range of steak cuts from Japanese Kobe fillet to Australian Wagyu sirloin.

Overall thoughts: There's no doubt that right now Harrods holds the title for London department store with the best food and beverage offering. The arrival of Studio Frantzen kicked things off, now there's the revamped Dining Hall and we still have Burnt Ends to come.
